Sambar

Step-by-step Sambar recipe made with Mom Masale ingredients for authentic Indian flavour.

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups Cooked Toor Dal (Pigeon Pea Lentils)
  • 2 tbsp Mom Masale Sambar Masala 🛒 Shop Sambhar Masala
  • 1 cup Mixed Vegetables (Drumsticks, Pumpkin, Bottle Gourd, Brinjal, Okra, French Beans, Carrot, Potato)
  • 3 tbsp Tamarind Pulp
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 2 Dried Red Chillies
  • 8–10 Curry Leaves

Method

  1. Boil the vegetables separately with a little water and salt until tender.
  2. Add the cooked vegetables, tamarind pulp, and Mom Masale Sambar Masala to the cooked dal.
  3. Bring to a gentle boil.
  4. Heat oil in a small pan and prepare a tempering with mustard seeds, dried red chillies, and curry leaves.
  5. Pour the tempering over the sambar.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice, idli, dosa, or vada.
